Brat Tor

Granite tor topped by a tall Victorian cross, an hour's walk from the village

Brat Tor (also known as Widgery Tor) is the dramatic granite outcrop visible to the east of Lydford. It is crowned by the 11-foot stone cross erected by William Widgery in 1887 to mark Queen Victoria's golden jubilee — one of the most distinctive landmarks on the western edge of Dartmoor.

The walk up from Lydford takes around an hour and crosses the River Lyd at the picturesque Lydford Bridge. The view from the top runs all the way to Bodmin Moor and the Tamar valley.
