About half a mile south of the village centre, the Rugglestone Inn is one of those pubs that has not changed much in a very long time, and for which you should be grateful. It is tiny — a single main room with a fireplace, a servery, and maybe 20 people's worth of seating before things get cosy. Real ales from local Devon breweries, proper cider, no frills.
The pub is named after a nearby logan stone, a type of rocking stone balanced on the moor. It serves simple food — pasties, pies, ploughman's — and on fair days and summer weekends it fills up completely, with drinkers overflowing onto the grass outside. Highly recommended as the more characterful of the two Widecombe pubs.
