Greenway is Agatha Christie's holiday home on a wooded bend of the River Dart, now managed by the National Trust. The house is not a museum in the formal sense — it still feels like somewhere someone lives, crammed with Christie's collections of china, silver, archaeological finds from her travels with husband Max Mallowan, and the comfortable clutter of a family that has been coming here for decades.
The grounds are the equal of the house: a walled garden, a boathouse on the river (which features in several Christie novels), paths through mature woodland down to the water. Getting there by ferry from Dartmouth or Totnes is the right approach — the road is narrow and parking minimal. Open April to October; check the National Trust website for hours. The connection to Christie is the draw, but the setting would justify the visit on its own.
