The Earthquake is a deep chasm on Lundy's exposed western side, where the island drops sharply toward the Atlantic. Older island lore links it to the shockwaves of the 1755 Lisbon earthquake, though geologists are less convinced by that explanation.
The appeal is the setting rather than the theory: hard cliffs, rough water below, and a strong sense of Lundy's wild edge. It is worth including on a walk across the island, especially in clear weather.
