A few kilometres east of Porlock, Selworthy is one of the prettiest villages on Exmoor: a cluster of whitewashed thatched cottages set into a steep south-facing slope below the wooded crest of Selworthy Beacon. The village green and the thirteenth-century church of All Saints — also whitewashed, unusually for a parish church — sit at the bottom of the slope.
The village is owned by the National Trust as part of the Holnicote Estate. A small tea garden in one of the cottages serves cream teas in season; the others are still lived in. From the green, footpaths climb to Selworthy Beacon (308 m) for views over the Bristol Channel, and west to Bossington Hill and the wooded coombe of Horner Wood.
