Swanage is the natural base for the eastern Isle of Purbeck. Corfe Castle, six miles inland by steam train or road, is one of the most evocative ruins in England. Studland and the National Trust beaches to the north are easily reached on foot or by bus. Further west along the Jurassic Coast, Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are striking but a serious drive or hour-and-a-half boat trip away.
