Oddicombe Beach

Red-shingle beach at the foot of the Babbacombe cliffs

A red-shingle beach below the Babbacombe cliffs, reached either by the Cliff Railway from the top or a steep zig-zag path down. The water is clear, the swimming is good, and there is a beach cafe and kayak hire in summer. Part of the cliff above the beach collapsed dramatically in 2015, taking a clifftop house with it, and the beach was closed for months — the scar in the cliff is still visible.

One of the better beaches in town for actual swimming, as opposed to paddling. Crowded in school holidays.
