Church Stretton Railway Station

Church Stretton station sits in the middle of town and is the most convenient arrival point for visitors without a car. It's a handsome Victorian building on the Welsh Marches Line, one of the most scenically spectacular railway routes in England. The line runs through the Stretton valley with the Long Mynd visible to the west and Caer Caradoc rising to the east — arriving by train is a better introduction to the landscape than arriving by road.

The station opened in 1852 and the original station building survives, though the line is now operated by Transport for Wales. Services run roughly hourly between Shrewsbury (30 minutes) and Hereford (45 minutes), with connections south to Cardiff and north to Manchester. The footpath to Carding Mill Valley begins just a few minutes' walk from the platform.
