The lead-mining remains on Grassington Moor are the hard-edged counterpoint to the village's pretty square. Shafts, spoil heaps, and ruined structures show how industrial these hills once were, long before the Dales became walking country.
The moor is exposed, so choose a clear day and carry a map. Interpretation panels help, but the main pleasure is seeing the old workings spread across open limestone country.
