Grassington is a small Yorkshire Dales village with a cobbled square, stone lanes, and walking country pressing in from every side. It is pretty enough for a slow wander, but the real reason to come is that you can step out of the village and quickly be in classic Wharfedale: river paths, limestone woods, dry-stone walls, and old lead-mining scars.
The village is a good day out from Skipton or a gentle base for the southern Dales. Linton Falls is the easy walk, Grass Wood gives a wilder limestone woodland circuit, and the Grassington Moor lead mines explain why these quiet hills were once industrial.
It is not a big destination, and that is part of the point. Come with boots, a waterproof, and time for the square afterwards.
