Wharfemeadows Park runs along the north bank of the River Wharfe through and beyond Otley, a flat and generous stretch of meadow, garden, and riverside path. It connects the town to the Chevin ridge via a network of footpaths, and it is where most of Otley's leisure life happens — dog walkers in the morning, families in the afternoon, teenagers and runners at all hours.
The river at this point is wide and clear, flowing fast over a shallow stony bed. In summer, children paddle in the shallows. In winter, it occasionally floods the lower meadows. The park has a good children's play area, a cafe, and toilets. Otley Bridge — a long, multi-arched structure with origins in the thirteenth century — frames the eastern end of the park.
