A National Trust property in the wooded valley of Hebden Water, just upstream from Hebden Bridge. Paths follow the river through beech and oak woods past tumbling waterfalls and gritstone outcrops; the going is easy enough for families and good enough for serious walkers to lengthen into a day.
The valley feels remarkable for how green and watery it is in a region so often described as bleak. In late spring the woods fill with bluebells and wild garlic; in autumn the foliage along the river is some of the most colourful in West Yorkshire.
