The South Pennines reward walkers more than sightseers. The landscape is the attraction: moorland tops, narrow stone-walled valleys, ruined mills, and the lonely Pennine Way ridges. A few set-piece sights — Stoodley Pike, Hardcastle Crags, Gibson Mill — anchor longer days out.
