Davagh Forest

Sperrins forest park with mountain-bike trails and one of Ireland's darkest skies

Davagh Forest sits in the Sperrins northwest of Cookstown, with walking routes, mountain-bike trails, and a landscape that feels much wilder than its distance from town suggests. The forest has become especially known for dark-sky viewing, helped by low light pollution and the nearby observatory.

By day, the practical draw is the trail network: gentle routes for a leg-stretch, tougher red-grade mountain-bike sections, and picnic space around the trailhead. By night, check conditions and events if you are coming for stars; on a clear evening the forest earns its reputation.
