Cookstown's main appeal is the remarkable concentration of ancient and historic sites in the surrounding countryside. Beaghmore Stone Circles to the northwest and Ardboe High Cross on Lough Neagh are the headline attractions, but Tullyhogue Fort and Killymoon Castle are also worth visiting. The Sperrins and Lough Neagh provide good walking and birdwatching within easy reach of the town.
