Coastal Zone

Marine visitor centre on Portrush's rocky shore, with tanks, exhibits, and sea views

The Coastal Zone is a small marine visitor centre on the east side of Ramore Head, looking straight out toward the Skerries and one of the most interesting stretches of water on the Causeway Coast. It is run by Northern Ireland's environment department, so the emphasis is on the local shore rather than on spectacle: rock-pool life, coastal habitats, seabirds, and the protected marine area just offshore.

It works best as a short stop between bigger Portrush sights. Children get the most from the tanks and discovery displays, but adults should still step out to the viewing platform, where seals, dolphins, and harbour porpoises sometimes appear in the water beyond the rocks. Pair it with a walk around Ramore Head or a windy wander along the harbour.
