The Skerries

Rocky islands off Portrush, watched for seabirds, seals, and north-coast views.

The Skerries are the small rocky islands just offshore from Portrush, visible from the town and from the north-coast roads. They are not a landing-place attraction so much as part of the seascape: low, dark rocks, surf, seabirds, and the sense that Portrush is facing straight into the Atlantic.

Boat trips sometimes pass the islands on the way along the Causeway Coast, and that is the most satisfying way to see them. From land, they work best as a short coastal-walk focus, especially in rougher weather when the waves make clear why these islands were named for skerries.
