Duthie Park is Aberdeen's most popular public park, on the south bank of the River Dee about a mile from the city centre. The park is famous for its roses — it holds one of Scotland's largest rose collections, massed along a hillside that comes into full colour in June and July. The adjacent Winter Gardens is the biggest indoor garden in Scotland, a series of glasshouses covering more than a hectare with tropical plants, a cactus house, and a butterfly room. Admission is free.
The park also has a paddling pool, play areas, boating pond, and sports pitches. It is a genuine community space rather than a tourist attraction — Aberdeen families have been coming here for generations. The walk along the Dee from the park toward the city passes some of the best riverside scenery in the city.
