The Summer Isles are a scatter of uninhabited islands lying just offshore from Achiltibuie, and reaching them by boat is the main draw for most visitors who make the long journey out here. Wildlife is the chief attraction: grey seals basking on rocky ledges, porpoises common in summer, and gannets diving in the outer waters. Seabird colonies cover the cliffs of several islands.
Boat trips run in summer from Achiltibuie pier, usually to Tanera Mòr and sometimes further into the archipelago depending on conditions. The operators are small and schedules change year to year; ask at the Summer Isles Hotel or check locally before planning a trip around a specific crossing. The crossing itself is part of the experience — the views back to the mainland, with Stac Pollaidh and Cul Beag rising behind the village, are some of the best in Scotland.
