The Mull of Kintyre is the peninsula's blunt southern end, all wind, cliffs, rough pasture, and sea. Northern Ireland is surprisingly close across the water, and the lighthouse road gives the trip a proper end-of-land feeling.
It is best treated as a drive or cycle from Campbeltown, with time for stops. In poor visibility it can feel bleak; in clear weather the openness is exactly the point.
