Drumlanrig Castle

Drumlanrig Castle is the great "pink palace" of the Queensberry Estate, a 17th-century Renaissance castle with turrets, towers, formal rooms, and a major art and furniture collection. The setting matters as much as the building: gardens, woodland, estate roads, and open countryside give it the feel of a full day out rather than a quick photo stop.

Interior access is usually by guided tour, so check times before travelling from Dumfries. Families can make more of the estate trails and outdoor activities when the house itself is not the main draw.
