Dumfries Museum gathers the town's local history, archaeology, natural history, and everyday objects in a former windmill tower. It is the sort of small museum that works best after you have walked the streets, because the exhibits give names and dates to the old burgh around you.
The camera obscura in the tower is the memorable feature when it is open. Even without it, the museum is a useful anchor for the west side of the Nith.
