Ellisland Farm is the place Burns built and farmed before moving into Dumfries. He lived here from 1788 to 1791, worked the land beside the Nith, and wrote some of the poems and songs that made this stretch of countryside part of his story.
The farm is not polished into a grand attraction, and that helps. It gives a better sense of the working life Burns was trying, and failing, to make pay before his final years in town.
