DCA — universally known by its initials — is the city's contemporary art gallery, cinema and print studio rolled into one. It sits in a 1990s building on the Nethergate that has anchored the cultural quarter ever since. The two gallery spaces show ambitious changing exhibitions of contemporary art (entry free); the two-screen cinema is independent-leaning, with a generous mix of arthouse, documentary and Sunday matinees of classics.
The cafe-bar is a hub for the city's art and student scene and is good for an unhurried lunch or a glass of wine before a film. The print studio offers public access and short courses for visitors who want to try their hand. Open daily; closed Mondays.
