The most unusual walk in Fife. A series of eight iron chains is fixed into the basalt cliffs east of Elie, allowing scramblers to make their way around the headland of Kincraig Point at the foot of the rock face. It is the only fixed chain-and-post trail in Scotland and is genuinely exposed in places — proper shoes, good weather, and a sober attention to the tide are essential.
Plan around low tide and allow about an hour. The reward is a sequence of small hidden coves you can't reach any other way, with the Firth of Forth opening up to the south. Not appropriate for small children, the unsteady, or anyone in a hurry — but for anyone else, easily the most memorable thing to do here.
