The Fochabers Folk Museum occupies a converted church on the high street and houses a large and pleasingly miscellaneous collection of objects relating to life in the Speyside village and the surrounding area. Carriages, agricultural tools, domestic equipment, local photographs, and assorted memorabilia fill the space, giving the impression of an entire community's attic having been opened to the public — which is more or less what it is.
The collection has genuine depth in local history, particularly around the estate workers who served Gordon Castle and the river trades that depended on the Spey. Entry is modest and the volunteer staff are knowledgeable. It is the kind of place that repays curiosity: spend half an hour or two hours, depending on how much you enjoy reading handwritten labels.
