Clifftop Walk

The Scottish Wildlife Trust has laid out a circular walking route of roughly three miles that takes in the full circuit of the island's accessible coastline. Starting from the landing beach at the south, the path climbs through heather moorland to the high clifftops on the north side, where the views down to the Great Stack are at their most dramatic. It then loops back along the west coast before returning to the beach.

The path is generally well-maintained but can be boggy after rain, and some sections run close to unfenced cliff edges. Walking boots are essential. Wardens are present on the island throughout the season and can point out particular birds or features; the small visitor shelter near the landing point has information boards about the island's geology, history, and wildlife. Most visitors complete the circuit in two to three hours, though serious birders often spend a full day.
