Auchindrain Historic Township

Preserved Highland township showing rural life in Argyll before modern farming changes.

Auchindrain Historic Township is an open-air museum six miles south of Inveraray. Unlike many folk museums, the buildings were not moved here from elsewhere; this is a preserved township on its original site.

It is the best stop near Inveraray for understanding ordinary rural life in Argyll. The houses, byres, tracks, and fields explain a landscape that can otherwise look merely pretty from the road.
