Inveraray Castle

Gothic Revival seat of the Dukes of Argyll, with grand interiors and gardens.

Inveraray Castle is the town's main reason to stop. Built from the 1740s in a theatrical Gothic Revival style, it is still the seat of the Dukes of Argyll and the chiefs of Clan Campbell.

The exterior gives Inveraray its postcard view, but the interiors are the real visit: armour, formal rooms, family history, and the sort of carefully preserved aristocratic stagecraft that suits this planned town.
