The Ross of Mull is the long, narrow peninsula forming the southern part of the island. You reach it by turning left off the ferry at Craignure and following the single-track road west.
Bunessan is the main village — small enough that having more than one shop counts as notable. The Bunessan Heritage Centre covers the local history. The south coast of the Ross has some of Mull's best beaches: white shell sand, clear water, and very few people. Many locals consider them finer than the more famous Calgary Bay in the north.
Most traffic heads for Fionnphort at the peninsula's southwest tip, where a five-minute passenger ferry crosses to Iona. Cars need a permit for the crossing, and most visitors walk on.
