Lochinver has limited options by most standards, but the Lochinver Larder bakery has made the village quietly famous. The hand-crimped pies — filled with combinations like venison and red wine, or haggis, neeps and tatties — have developed a following well beyond Sutherland, and people genuinely drive here just to eat them. They are sold hot or cold from the larder and can be taken away; eating one on a harbour wall in a westerly gale is an authentic local experience.
The Larder also runs a restaurant serving more substantial meals. Beyond that, the Assynt Visitor Centre has a café, and the local hotel provides bar meals. Given the remoteness, it is worth eating well before setting out on the hills.
