There are two or three places to get fish and chips in Mallaig and the locals will argue about which is the best. The Cornerstone, on the seafront opposite the CalMac terminal, is the most consistent in our experience: hand-battered haddock, scampi straight off the boats, and big trays of chips to eat outside on a bench above the harbour.
Don't expect refinement. The queue can be long on summer evenings — it moves quickly — and the gulls are alarmingly large. Cash is fine; cards are fine; service is brisk rather than warm.
