Glentress Forest is one of Scotland's best-known mountain-biking centres, with marked trails climbing through forest east of Peebles. Riders come for the purpose-built routes, but walkers can also use the forest paths and viewpoints without needing a bike.
The forest gives Peebles a useful outdoor edge. On a dry day, it turns the town from a pleasant Borders stop into a proper active base.
