Cullingsburgh is a ruined settlement on Bressay's east side, with traces of an Iron Age broch, a medieval church, croft houses, and fishing buildings. The famous Bressay Stone, a Pictish carved slab with ogham lettering, was found here; the original is now in Edinburgh, with a replica on the island.
The remains are low and weathered, so this is not a grand ruin. It works because the layers are still readable in the landscape: church, broch mound, cottages, shore, and grazing ground all pressed together.
