Tingwall Loch

Freshwater loch north of Scalloway with birdlife and old parliament associations

Tingwall Loch lies a short drive north of Scalloway on the road toward Lerwick. It is a freshwater loch with swans and other birdlife, but its name also points to Shetland's old Norse assembly traditions.

The Law Ting Holm at the north end was once the site of Shetland's parliament. There is not much structure left to see, so this is best as a quiet scenic and historical detour rather than a stand-alone sight.
