Old Scatness adds another layer to the south Mainland archaeology circuit. The site was discovered during road works in the 1970s and centres on an Iron Age broch with surrounding village remains.
It is especially good when open for guided visits, because the long reuse of the site is easier to understand with someone pointing out the different building phases.
