Sumburgh Head

Lighthouse headland and nature reserve with sea cliffs, summer puffins, and wide views off southern Shetland.

Sumburgh Head rises just south of the airport, ending in a lighthouse and cliff-top reserve. In season, puffins and other seabirds nest close enough to make the headland one of Shetland's easiest wildlife stops.

The visitor centre adds context on the lighthouse, radio history, wildlife, and archaeology. Even outside opening hours, the headland is worth the drive for wind, cliffs, and sea views.
