The walk from Elgol to Camasunary is one of the most rewarding short walks on Skye — about 4 km each way on a good path with little elevation gain, passing along the coast above Loch Scavaig with continuous views of the Cuillin ridge. Camasunary itself is a remote beach of dark sand backed by a bothy (a simple open shelter) and two ruined buildings, utterly empty except in high summer.
The path continues from Camasunary towards Loch Coruisk on foot, but this involves the "Bad Step" — a short section of coastal scrambling above the sea that requires confidence with heights, though no technical climbing ability. Many walkers turn back at Camasunary and simply enjoy the beach and the view of Blaven's great face rising above the bay. Return the same way, or in good conditions some walkers take the alternative path back over the ridge above Elgol for different views.
