High Pasture Cave is one of Skye's more unusual archaeological sites: a limestone cave system in the hills above Elgol where excavations uncovered evidence of long ritual use from the Bronze Age into the Iron Age. Finds from the site have included animal bone, worked stone, metalwork, and traces of activity that suggest the cave was more than a simple shelter.
It is not a polished visitor attraction, so come for the landscape and the sense of depth rather than for displays or signage. The site rewards travellers who already enjoy Skye's rougher corners: a short detour into a pasture landscape with views back toward the Cuillin and a reminder that the island's human story is as layered as its geology.
