Soay lies off Skye's southwest coast, close to Elgol but feeling remote in the way small Hebridean islands do. Its cliffs, rough grazing, sea views and sparse settlement history make it a compelling presence from the water, especially on boat trips that also look toward Loch Coruisk and the Cuillin.
The island is not a routine landing-place for most visitors, so think of it as part of the seascape rather than a guaranteed walk. Seen from a boat, it adds a wilder chapter to the Elgol coast.
