The Sligachan Hotel has been serving Cuillin climbers since 1830, when it opened as a coaching inn on the new road through Skye. The pioneers of British mountaineering — Norman Collie, John MacKenzie, Sheriff Alexander Nicolson — used it as their base, and a small museum in the back room records their first ascents. Outside, a bronze statue of Collie and MacKenzie looks across to the mountains they spent their lives mapping.
The attached Seumas' Bar is the social heart of the hotel, with a large stone fireplace, a long whisky list, and a heroic selection of Cuillin Brewery beers brewed on site. Walkers in muddy boots are welcome. The kitchen serves big plates of venison stew, haggis, and pub classics until late.
