The Llŷn Peninsula has some of the finest beaches in Wales, many of them owned and protected by the National Trust. The north and south coasts have very different characters: the north is more exposed and dramatic, the south more sheltered and suited to swimming and sailing.
Porth Oer (Whistling Sands) on the north coast is the most famous beach on the peninsula — a small arc of pale sand that literally squeaks underfoot. Porth Iago and Porth Colmon are less visited north coast bays worth seeking out. On the south coast, Abersoch is the sailing resort, popular with families and watersports enthusiasts. Porth Ysgo is a secluded cove reached by a footpath down a cliff — one of the least visited and most beautiful beaches on the peninsula.
