Government House

Government House is the official residence and office of the Governor-General of Antigua and Barbuda, occupying a prominent position on Independence Avenue above the town centre. The present structure is a 19th-century colonial mansion set in formal gardens.

The grounds are not generally open to the public, but the exterior and gates are photographable from the road. The building represents the transition from British colony to independent nation — from 1981 the Governor-General serves as the King's representative in what is now a constitutional monarchy within the Commonwealth.
