Oranjestad's heritage streetcar — the Tranvia di Oranjestad — runs a short single-track route through the city centre, connecting the cruise terminal with the main shopping street. It was introduced in 1999 partly as a tourist attraction and partly to ease pedestrian congestion along L.G. Smith Boulevard. The trams are modern replicas of early 20th-century Caribbean streetcars, painted in bright colours.
The ride is short and more novelty than transport, but it does give a comfortable overview of the town's main boulevard without having to walk in the heat. It runs frequently during cruise-ship hours and is free or very cheap to ride. A pleasant way to reach the far end of the shopping district if you don't feel like walking.
