Shopping

Shopping is a major activity for cruise passengers in Oranjestad, and the city has built its retail infrastructure around that fact. L.G. Smith Boulevard and the side streets running off it are lined with jewellery shops, electronics retailers, perfume outlets, and souvenir stores, most targeting day visitors from the ships.

If you're after local goods rather than imported luxury items, the harbour market is the best place to look: fresh produce, spices, and the occasional craft item brought over from Venezuela. The Paseo Herencia mall in Palm Beach — a short taxi ride from the centre — has a more mixed retail offering including local food products and craft items. In the city centre, look for Aruban aloe products (the island has a significant aloe industry) and locally made hot sauces.
