Pete's Pub

Pete's Pub at Little Harbour is one of those places that shouldn't exist — an open-air beach bar at the end of a remote dirt road on a cay that barely shows up on maps — and yet it's been there for decades and will likely outlast most things that take themselves more seriously. Pete Johnston runs it from the family compound that his father Randolph started in the 1950s when he sailed here and decided not to leave.

The menu runs to burgers and conch fritters; the cold Kalik is the real draw. The pub fills up on weekends when a parade of boats anchors in the small circular harbour outside. On a weekday afternoon it can be almost empty, which is its own kind of pleasure. The trip down from Marsh Harbour — 45 minutes on a mostly-paved road — is half the experience.
