When to Go

The Abaco Islands sit in the subtropical Atlantic and have two distinct seasons. Winter (December through April) is dry, breezy, and warm — daytime temperatures hover around 24°C (75°F). This is high season: the anchorages fill with boats from the US east coast, the ferries run on time, and every restaurant is open. Book accommodation early.

Summer (May through November) is hot, humid, and prone to afternoon thunderstorms. June through October is hurricane season; Abaco's 2019 catastrophe from Hurricane Dorian is a reminder that this risk is real. Some smaller establishments close entirely from August to October.

The Bahamas Sailing Regatta held at Marsh Harbour in late July/early August is a major event when locals race traditional wooden boats. It's worth timing a trip around if you want to see the islands at their most festive.
