Eating Out

Eating well in Abaco means eating seafood. Grouper, snapper, conch, and spiny lobster (when in season, August to March) dominate menus across the islands. The quality is high and most kitchens know what they're doing with local catch.

Cracked conch — tenderised, battered, and fried — is the standard bar snack across the Abacos. The conch salad (raw conch diced with pepper, onion, and citrus juice) is better and worth seeking out.

Restaurant choice narrows significantly outside Marsh Harbour and Hope Town. On some of the smaller cays you're eating at whatever the one or two establishments happen to be serving that day. This is usually fine, occasionally excellent, and part of the experience.
