On Great Abaco, a paved road runs roughly 130 miles from the northern tip to Hole-in-the-Wall in the south. Car hire is available in Marsh Harbour and at both airports. Petrol stations are limited outside the main towns, so fill up before venturing far south.
The cays are reached by water taxi and ferry. Albury's Ferry Service is the main operator for the central cays, with scheduled runs from the Marsh Harbour dock to Hope Town (Elbow Cay), Man-O-War Cay, and Great Guana Cay several times daily. Green Turtle Cay ferries depart from Crown Haven near Treasure Cay, about 35 miles north of Marsh Harbour — get a taxi or drive up.
On the cays themselves, most people walk or use golf carts. Hope Town and New Plymouth (Green Turtle Cay) are small enough to cover on foot in an afternoon. Man-O-War has a couple of golf carts for hire but many visitors simply walk the island's single road.
Private boats are the other serious option. The Abaco Sea (the body of water between the barrier cays and Great Abaco) is shallow, protected, and well-charted — one of the classic sailing grounds of the western Atlantic.
