Dunmore Town (Harbour Island)

Dunmore Town is the main settlement on Harbour Island, a 3-mile sliver just off the northern tip of Eleuthera. Once a shipbuilding centre and briefly the capital of the Bahamas in the 18th century, it is now a quietly photogenic village of pastel timber cottages, picket fences, and crushed-coral lanes shaded by ancient sea-grape trees.

Bay Street along the harbour is where the boats come in; Pink Sands Beach is a five-minute walk across the island on the Atlantic side. Most visitors get around by golf cart. The town has good restaurants and is a popular weekend hop from Miami.
